December 2017, Dubai, UAE – Comedy Central, the world’s number one comedy network and a division of VIACOM International Media Networks (VIMN), has wrapped up film production of its second and third seasons for Comedy Central Presents: كوميدي عالواقف. The local stand-up comedy show is set to premiere exclusively on OSN, the region’s leading entertainment provider, on 14 January 2018. The production was recorded live at the urban-luxe ‘Square’ at the JW Marriot Marquis Hotel in Dubai.
OSN viewers can enjoy over 60 of the best Arab comedians from across the Middle East, both professionals and first timers, who presented their skits in Arabic and English, drawing from Middle Eastern traditions and culture. To provide combined international and regional flavour, the talent lineup was supported by heavy weight comedian Ali Al Sayed, an Emirati who has performed numerous shows on iconic stages across the globe and who co-hosted the hugely successful first season. Show highlights include the hilarious Khaled Omar, Hisham Haddad, and Shaker Al Sharif.
For the new seasons, the local team conducted a talent search across the MENA region at a series of local workshops and open mic nights, which took place at Kharabeesh in Amman, Jordan, at Retroactive in Beirut, Lebanon and at Bar’Oro in Cairo, Egypt, ensuring a diverse and hilarious Middle Eastern line-up for the show. The brand searched for laugh-out-loud content, celebrated local talent and helped aspiring comedians hone their comical skills through a range of workshops hosted by Emirati, Ali Al Sayed and Saudi, Khaled Omar. The duo shared learnings and skills to finesse the art of being funny, touching on all aspects of the trade, from creative writing and comedy styles to punch lines and the all-important timing. The project sourced talent from all over the region and united them in Dubai, UAE for the home-grown production.

Comedy Central Presents: كوميدي عالواقفwas the first stand-up comedy production in the MENA region for Comedy Central since the channel launched in May 2016 on OSN and the channel’s first Arabic production. For the first season, the show gathered over 30 of the region’s most promising Arab comedians for a series of live shows taped in Dubai. The show featured talent from across the Middle East to create exclusive content, involving talent from the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. The diverse group was made up of both established professional comedians and first-timers who performed in Arabic and English, blending international and regional tastes and perspectives on humour.
